The Kompienga reservoir lies on the Oualé , a tributary of the Pendjari in southeast Burkina Faso west of Pama . Depending on the water level, the water area covers around 160–210 km². A hydropower plant on the dam near Tagou , built in 1985–1988, is used to generate electricity. The reservoir is also important for the local fishing industry.
