Compriband

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A compriband (also sling or joint tape ) is a pre-compressed impregnated foam sealing strip on the basis of polyurethane , which after introduction into a gap slowly expands and rests close to the joint edges. Compribands are usually available in two types: inner and outer bands.

Areas of application in construction:

  • Expansion joints, seals or prefabricated components, fiber cement parts, window and door connections, partition walls and so on.

function

An open-cell polyurethane foam is impregnated with a water-repellent synthetic resin polymer, pressed together (pre-compressed) and then rolled up. The processor receives these sealing tape rolls in different dimensions depending on the application and the size of the joint. For processing, the pre-compressed sealing tape is unrolled as required and either glued to one component and the other placed against it, or the sealing tape is subsequently inserted into an existing joint. The latter is possible because the compressed band slowly expands to its original, uncompressed level.

In contrast to the swelling tape , which increases its volume by absorbing water, a compression tape resets itself purely mechanically, without chemical reactions or special physical processes.

Compribands serve u. a. for creating watertightness on facades. Compribands are available in different stress groups. These stress groups are defined in DIN 18542, but this standard also deals with:

  • Weather resistance
  • Thermal shock resistance
  • Air permeability (a-value)
  • Resistance to light and moisture
  • Compatibility with other building materials
  • Fire behavior
  • Water vapor diffusion resistance
  • Watertightness for joint crosses

According to guideline MO-01/1 of January 2007 for the usability of sealing materials when connecting windows to the building structure, a compression tape that is to be used for outer window sealing must meet the highest stress group BG1.

properties

  1. sticks with force (adhesive) instead of chemicals (reactive)
  2. easy to insert due to delayed restoring force
  3. Temperature resistance from –30 ° C to +90 ° C
  4. Impregnation based on dispersion
  5. high aging and weather resistance
  6. excellent compatibility with other materials
  7. Fire behavior, building material class B1, DIN 4102

application areas

  1. Sealing against driving rain, noise, drafts and dust indoors and outdoors
  2. Facade construction
  3. Installation of windows and door frames in the masonry, also between different materials
  4. Glass construction
  5. Floor joints
  6. Movement joints on flat roofs
  7. Timber construction including interior cladding
  8. Building construction between aluminum profiles
  9. Container construction
  10. Automotive industry
