Confocal endomicroscopy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The confocal endomicroscopy ( English : Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy ) is an examination method within the scope of endoscopic examinations in medicine. Although it enables tissue diagnostics during an endoscopic examination that is inferior to standard histology , comparative examinations between CLE and the regular standard biopsy show a high level of sensitivity and specificity. This could make biopsy collection more targeted and thus reduce the total number of regular biopsies .

application areas

In gastroenterology, the CLE is mainly used for screening examinations of Barrett's esophagus . The diagnosis of neoplastic changes is highly reliable. The first positive experiences were also described in the diagnosis of bile duct carcinoma .
