Congress pillar
The Congress Column ( Colonne du Congrès / Congreskolom ) is a monument on the Congress Square ( Place du Congrès / Congresplein ) in Brussels . The column commemorates the creation of the Belgian state and the constitution by the National Assembly in 1830–1831. It was built between 1850 and 1859 on the initiative of Charles Rogier . The design comes from Joseph Poelaert and was inspired by the Trajan Column in Rome.
