history

The Auping headquarters

In 1888, Johannes Auping, a blacksmith in the Dutch town of Deventer, was commissioned by the director of the "Sint Geertruiden" hospital to develop a bed that was supposed to be more hygienic than the usual beds. His new idea consisted of twisted and interwoven iron wires that were stretched in an iron frame. Two years later, the civic hospital in Amsterdam places its first large order and wants 40 copies of the "steel health mattress". The specialization in bed bases was later followed by mattresses and box spring beds. This is how Auping developed into the market leader in the Netherlands. For the 100th anniversary, Auping received the addition "Royal". From now on the full company name is "Koninklijke Auping bv".

Business activity

Today Auping has a worldwide network of branches, specialist dealers and showrooms. In Germany , Auping sells its products at over 40 specialist dealers and in its own Auping branches. The beds are developed together with scientists and renowned designers, including Frans de la Haye and Thomas Althaus.
