Conization
A conization is an outpatient surgical procedure on the cervix of an adult woman. A cone of tissue ( cone , hence the name conization ) is removed from the cervix ( cervix ) with a scalpel , laser or an electric loop, which should contain part of the portio surface (cervical surface) and the cervical canal. A flat conization is recommended for women of sexual maturity, and a pointed conization for postmenopausal women. The reason for the conization is usually an abnormal finding in the Pap test , which , if left untreated , could develop into cervical cancer . The histological assessment of the obtained specimen is based on the CIN classification .
