Konjo (people)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Konjo are a people in the Indonesian province of South Sulawesi . They mainly inhabit the Kabupaten Bulukumba in the southeast corner of the southern Sulawesi peninsula .

The coastal konjo are sailors and shipbuilders. In Tanaberu, especially in the villages of the Ara and Lemo-Lemo, you will find the last shipyards where the Pinisi boats are built.

The captains and sailors who steer these boats across the seas of the Indonesian archipelago are generally from the village of Bira . The Konjo are not trying to contradict the popular belief that they are Bugis .
