The Konrad-Adenauer-Platz is the central market square in the pedestrian area of the district center in Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The marketplace was named Am Markt between 1887 and 1893 . In 1934 it was given the name Adolf-Hitler-Platz in connection with the construction of a National Socialist memorial . Marienstraße, which was renamed Maria-Zanders-Straße in 1950, ran between the Bergischer Löwe community center and Villa Zanders . The marketplace had no official name for a long time. Shortly after Konrad Adenauer's death in 1967, it was named Konrad-Adenauer-Platz . Since the construction of the pedestrian zone in 1981, the square has expanded over a much larger area in the center of the city. As a result, Maria-Zanders-Straße fell away.
