Conscription

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Conscription ( Latin conscriptio , writing together, collecting; Latin conscribere , writing together, collecting) is an outdated legal term. This describes the raising of the patterned male population of a country for military or military service on the basis of conscription , in contrast to the recruitment and calling up of volunteers . In addition, there is still civil service in the course of which civilians can be forced to exercise their professional activity in exceptional situations.

In the 18th century, a conscription also referred to the written compilation and summary of statistical data (e.g. for the calculation of a contribution ).
