The "Konsument Versandhaus" was a mail order company in the GDR and was located in Karl-Marx-Stadt . In addition to the Leipzig mail order company , it was the second universal mail order company in the GDR.

history

The first mail order catalog of the GDR consumer cooperatives appeared in spring 1961 under the name Konsum-Versandhandel Karl-Marx-Stadt. The catalog was aimed in particular at the rural population.

The corresponding dispatch warehouse was set up in the Kauffahrtei in Karl-Marx-Stadt, a traditional wholesale center of the consumer cooperatives , as early as 1959 .

In 1965 the company was renamed "Konsument - Versandhaus".

In August 1976 the mail order company was closed because the needs of the population aroused by the catalogs could often not be met. The official reason, however, was that the supply of the rural population with stationary sales outlets was secured and mail order was no longer necessary.
