The contamination protection suit is used by fire brigade and disaster control units during operations with radioactive material as well as in nuclear power plants and operations with emitters . It consists of easily decontaminable, permanently antistatic, fire-retardant, water- and oil-repellent fibers (e.g. aramid fibers ). This suit is also used for the decontamination of chemical protective suit wearers (CSA).

The additional personal protective equipment for the contamination protection suit consists of rubber boots , acid protection gloves , an alarm and a film dosimeter and a mask with a self - contained breathing apparatus or filter . The suit is intended to prevent dust-like and liquid radioactive particles from settling or being incorporated , i.e. inhaled or swallowed, on the surface of the emergency person . This provides a limited protection against alpha and beta radiation , because these radiation are particularly dangerous because of their relatively short range when the radiation source is inside the body. However , the suit is practically ineffective against the strongly penetrating gamma radiation . Therefore, precise regulations must also be observed with the protective clothing when using radiation protection . As a guideline, it can be assumed that you can reduce around 90% of soiling by removing your clothes.

For accidents involving dangerous goods , e.g. B. acid, the chemical protective suit is used.
