The English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams wrote his Concerto for Oboe and Strings in A minor for the soloist Léon Goossens in 1944. The work with its folk character consists of three movements:

  1. Rondo Pastorale (Allegro moderato)
  2. Minuet and Musette (Allegro moderato)
  3. Scherzo (Presto-doppio piu lento - lento - presto)

The concert was originally intended to be premiered at the Proms , but since there were fears that the V1 would attack London, the piece was premiered in Liverpool .
