As Scheme (ancient Greek for "attitude, shape, form") or council scheme is in the language of the Roman Catholic Church a thematic draft text referred provided by the Preparatory Commission for the deliberations of the Council will be submitted. On the basis of such schemes, the Council Fathers elaborate the texts that are discussed and resolved by the College of Bishops assembled at the Council , in order then to be finally put into effect by the Pope as Council Constitutions and decrees.

For the Second Vatican Council there were 70 such schemes, from which the 16 Council documents emerged .
