Johannes Brantl

Johannes Brantl (born May 31, 1968 in Schongau ) is a German theologian .

Life

After graduating from high school in Zwiesel in 1988, he studied Catholic theology at the University of Passau and the University of Freiburg im Üechtland from 1988 to 1993 . From 1993 to 1994 he completed his pastoral internship in the parish of Kößlarn . He was ordained a deacon in November 1993 and a priest in July 1994. From 1994 to 1995 he was chaplain in the parish association of Arnstorf and from 1995 to 1997 chaplain in the Passau parish of St. Anton and at the same time research assistant (part-time) at the chair for moral theology at the University of Passau. In 1997 he was appointed sub-rain in the St. Stephan Episcopal Seminary of the Diocese of Passau while retaining the position as a research assistant (part-time) at the University of Passau. He started working for Peter Fonk in 2000 with the work Connecting Morals. Doctorate in theological ethics and cross-cultural human ethology . From 2002 to 2006 he was a research assistant (full time) at the chair for moral theology . After completing his habilitation in moral theology in 2007 with the thesis Decision through Discrimination. Existential ethics as an inner element of medical ethics from a Christian perspective , he was appointed private lecturer . From 2007 to 2008 he was the student pastor of the Catholic student community at the University of Passau . Since 2008 he has been a professor of moral theology at the Trier Theological Faculty , of which he was dean of studies from 2009 to 2015 and of which he has been rector since April 1, 2015.

His main research interests are fundamental morality, medical ethics, ethics and art, and Christian spirituality.
