Walter Andreas Euler

Walter Andreas Euler (born June 10, 1962 in Spiegelau ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

From 1981 to 1986 he studied Catholic theology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and at the University of Passau , where he graduated in 1986 with a degree in Catholic theology. After receiving his doctorate in 1990 as Dr. theol. In Freiburg im Breisgau he was a postdoctoral fellow from 1990 to 1992 from the DFG in Freiburg and Florence . On April 1, 1992, he was awarded a permanent C2 lectureship for Cusanus research at the Trier Theological Faculty . Since December 13, 1996, he has also been a permanent lecturer for religious studies and missiology at the Trier Theological Faculty. After his habilitation on June 20, 1997 in the subject of fundamental theology and religious studies at the Trier Theological Faculty, he was appointed private lecturer for the subject of fundamental theology and religious studies at the Trier Theological Faculty on December 8, 1997 . On April 1, 1998, he was appointed professor at the Trier Theological Faculty, and on October 1, 2001, he was appointed Full Professor of Fundamental Theology and Ecumenical Theology at the Trier Theological Faculty. From April 1, 2007 to September 30, 2016 he was director of the Institute for Cusanus Research. From October 23, 2008 to December 31, 2016 he was Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Cusanus Society. As dean (April 1, 2009– March 31, 2010) he headed the Trier Theological Faculty

He is a member of the Board of Advisors of the American Cusanus Society, the Board of Directors of the Caspar Olevian Society Trier, the Scientific Advisory Board of the Emil Frank Institute and the Ecumenical Commission of the Diocese of Trier and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ecumenical Institute for Interreligious Dialogue of the University of Trier . His main research interests are theology of religions (historical and systematic); the relationship between Christianity and Islam; ecumenical theology; Nikolaus von Kues (interpretation of his theology and collaboration on the text-critical edition of the sermon work) and critic of Christianity.
