Mount Rio Branco ( French Sommet Rio Branco , in the United Kingdom Mount Branco ) is a 975 m high mountain on the Graham Coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 4 km east of Cape Pérez .
Participants of the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908-1910) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot discovered him. Charcot named him after José Maria da Silva Paranhos , Barão do Rio Branco (1845-1912), Brazil's Foreign Minister from 1902 to 1912. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this name into English in 1950. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee, however, decided in 1954 to use a shortened translation.
