Werner Schuessler

Werner Schüßler (born July 22, 1955 in Altrich ) is professor of philosophy at the Trier Theological Faculty .

Life

After graduating from high school in Wittlich in 1975, Schüßler studied philosophy, Catholic theology and education in Trier, Tübingen and in Québec, Canada . In 1983 he was at the University of Trier with a thesis on the philosophical concept of God in the early work of Paul Tillich doctorate which was awarded the prize for young scientists. In 1988 he received a doctorate in Catholic theology from Laval University in Québec. In 1991 he completed his habilitation in philosophy with an examination of GW Leibniz at the University of Trier.

Werner Schüßler has been a full professor of philosophy at the Trier Theological Faculty since 1999. He gave his inaugural lecture on November 8, 1999 on Viktor E. Frankl's contribution to philosophical anthropology . In the academic year 2005/06 and in the academic year 2017/18 he was dean of the theological faculty.

In his numerous publications, Schüßler deals primarily with questions of the philosophy of religion , philosophical anthropology , natural theology, metaphysics and existential philosophy (especially Karl Jaspers and Peter Wust). His main interest is devoted to the thinking of the religious philosopher and Protestant theologian Paul Tillich . From 2004 to 2006 he was chairman, since 2006 he has been deputy. Chairman of the German Paul Tillich Society. Since 2010 he has been editor of the "Trier Theologische Zeitschrift" (together with Renate Brandscheidt). Since 2018 he has been Deputy Chairman of the Peter Wust Society. Since 2019 he has been Deputy Chairman of DanceAbility eV
