history

Donnersmarckhütte pit

The consolidation of the fields "Saargemünd", "Deutsch-Lorraine", "Neue Abwehr", "Zabrze" and "Jungfrau Metz", all of which had been awarded at the time of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, were given a total size of 10 , 89 km² consolidated on August 22, 1906 under the name Donnersmarckhütte-Grube. The owner was "Donnersmarckhütte AG". For a long time this very large field was developed by two mines, the defense pit (4.09 km²) and the Concordia and Michael colliery .

Defensive pit

The sinking of the "Adolf" (later Jan) shaft near Mikulczyce had already begun in 1901, but the water inflow during the sinking process was so strong that it could not go into operation until 1907. For this reason, the second shaft "Elisabeth" (later Bolesław ) was sunk from 1906 to a depth of 499 m, partly using the freezing method, and partly broken up from the 470 m level. From the initial (1905) 8,836 t, production increased to 849,590 t by 1912.

In 1926, the "United Oberschlesische Hüttenwerke Aktiengesellschaft" was founded, resulting in a large merger of the mining and smelting works operating in western Upper Silesia. This Oberhütten AG was the amalgamation of the German-Upper Silesian works of Linke-Hofmann-Lachhammer AG, Berlin (formerly Oberschlesische Eisenindustrie AG, Gleiwitz; Obereisen), the Oberschlesischen Eisenbahn -bedarfs-AG, Gleiwitz (Oberbedarf) and the Donnersmarckhütte A.-G . The Henckel zu Donnersmarck family brought the new "Castellegno Defense Union" into this AG with a third of all Kuxe of the two mines. This union gradually became the majority shareholder in Oberhütten.

In 1937 the mine had only two shafts that were also used for extraction, namely Elisabeth 575 m (double extraction, cableway and moving weather shaft) and Adolf 380 m (cableway; extending).

CHP Mikulczyce

In 1945 the defensive pit was named Mikulczyce, and in 1960 it was merged with Rokitnica. On January 1, 1970, the mine was shut down.

present

Today there are only a few administrative buildings that are used as production and storage facilities. The salary hall has now been extensively restored and is used as a production facility by an organ building company.
