The head protection is a piece of equipment in some martial arts such. B. boxing, karate, taekwondo or kickboxing.

Head protection used to be made of leather and filled with horsehair . Modern head protection usually consists of soft foam and is attached to the head with Velcro straps.

In amateur boxing, head protection was compulsory until 2013 according to the competition regulations of the German Boxing Association (DBV, formerly DABV):

§ 21 5. Each athlete must wear head protection approved by AIBA and stamped by DBV during competition . It is permitted to wear a sweatband under the head protection. The hair must not be in the hit area, long hair must be stowed under the head protection. ...
Today, in amateur boxing, head protection is only worn by women and minors.

For professional boxers, head protection is only used during sparring training .
