List of apple varieties |
The Korbiniansapfel or KZ-3 is one of four apple varieties that Korbinian Aigner bred during his imprisonment in the Dachau concentration camp . He numbered the varieties KZ-1 to KZ-4. He managed to smuggle the varieties out of the camp while he was still in prison. To this day, however, only this variety, which was later also referred to as the Korbinian apple, has survived.
Two corbinian apple trees were planted at the memorial of the memorial site of the MUNA Lübberstedt .
The Korbiniansapfel has a fine-celled pulp and is firm and juicy at the same time, its taste is considered to be aromatic and balanced between sweet and sour. The smooth skin of the ripe apple is green-yellow on the shady side and yellow on the sunny side with red flaming. The Korbinian apple ripens between October and November, can be stored until spring and is suitable both as a dessert fruit and for cooking.
