The Korean Badminton Association is the top national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Seoul and was founded in 1957 .

history

Badminton was first played in South Korea in 1945 at the YMCA . In 1957 a government delegation brought the game back to South Korea from Japan, as a result of which a national association was founded. In 1962 the association became an associate member of the Badminton World Federation , then known as the International Badminton Federation , as the association had not yet reached the 500 members required for full membership. Even in 1970, only around 500 players were registered. Over 2500 players in 1980 the number rose explosively to 14856 athletes in 1985. With the increase in quantity, there was also an improvement in the quality of the South Korean badminton. South Korea is one of the top 10 nations in this sport today.
