The Kornhaus is a building on the Doberan monastery grounds that the Cistercian monks used to store grain.

Today it is a socio-cultural meeting center for every age group and offers many events.

history

The granary was built in the 13th century in the French Gothic style. It was used as a granary for a long time by the Cistercian monks . The storage volume of 1440 m 3 of grain indicates the significant strength of the Doberan Cistercians. At the end of the 18th century the granary was used as a ducal horse stable. The Kornhaus also has a café and, since 1995, an outdoor bread oven.

A special place for many guests is the monastery garden from 2002, which reflects a monastery past. In the summer months, various events take place in the ruin of the farm building next to it. In 2011 an extensive renovation of the entire building was carried out. Today the Kornhaus is used as a meeting place for children and young people. There is a youth art school in the Kornhaus, which has developed into an important place for cultural education. It offers design courses for children and adults.
