The motorboat race track on the Elbe bend near Dessau is known as the Kornhauskurs . It lies roughly between river kilometers 260 and 262. It takes its name from the Kornhaus excursion restaurant on the bank , from whose terrace you can watch the races. The Kornhauskurs is the oldest active motorboat racing track in Germany. In 2009, the 48th event was held here by MBC Elbe Dessau.

There are many permanent race tracks for automobile and motorcycle racing, such as the Nürburgring or the Sachsenring. In motorboat racing, all racetracks in Europe are only set up temporarily, i.e. H. marked by buoys and closed to general shipping. The only permanent facility on the Kornhaus course is the start and finish tower built on the headland between the Elbe and Leopoldshafen.

Events

Since 1957, annual races to the GDR championships and later German championships have been held on the Kornhaus circuit. Even in the time of the fall of the Wall, the events continued uninterrupted, only floods sometimes forced the event to be canceled. As of 1972, motorboat racing, like all other non-Olympic sports, was no longer promoted, which is why there were no more international championships after that in the GDR.
