Kosminskaya Fracture Zone

The Kosminskaya Fracture Zone (English for Kosminskaja Fracture Zone is) an undersea transform fault in the Southern Ocean . It runs east of the South Orkney Islands and south of the South Sandwich Islands .
Russian scientists from the research ship Akademik Boris Petrow discovered them in February 1995. The name given by the US Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF) in September 1997 was confirmed by Irina Petrovna Kosminskaja (1918–1996), a Russian geophysicist and seismologist .
