The Kotscherigin LR ( Russian Кочеригин ЛР ) was a Soviet reconnaissance aircraft of the 1930s. It was developed by a group under the direction of Sergei Kotscherigin in the Central Design Office , which is why it was named ZKB-1 (ЦКБ-1) after his abbreviation .

development

The order for the development of a successor to the R-5 was awarded to Kotscherigin in 1931. Following the former doctrine of multi-purpose capability should in addition to its educational role as a light bomb and attack aircraft to be used. A major requirement over the R-5 was higher speed. Development work began at the beginning of 1932. The designers based themselves largely on the previous model and designed a one - and-a -half-decker with a rigid landing gear. He was given the designation LR, the abbreviation for "easy scout" (Legki raswedtschik, Легкий разведчик). As a major external difference, the span of the upper wing was reduced from 15.50 m to 13.00 m and the lower one from 12.00 m to 10.80 m. The M-34 designed by Alexander Mikulin was provided as the drive, the test phase of which had been successfully completed shortly before at the end of 1931 and production of which had just started after the turn of the year. The engine was later used in the R-5. The prototype was completed in July 1933 and testing began immediately. A second specimen, designated as LR-2, received the M-34N (N for nagnetalni, charged) equipped with a charger and reached a speed of 314 km / h during testing at an altitude of 5000 meters. Overall, however, the model did not represent any significant progress on the R-5, which is why after the flight tests were completed in 1934 it was decided not to put the LR into production.

construction

The LR was a tensioned one-and-a-half-decker made of wood with fabric covering and metal planking in the engine area. The two wings were also covered with fabric and connected to each other and to the fuselage by I-handles. The high stabilizer was braced towards the fuselage. The rear wheel chassis was rigid and had a grinding spur, with the main wheels being replaced by runners during the winter test.
