Crowbiter

Crow biter ( Krajebieter ) was called the fishermen of the Curonian Spit , the autumn during migration with nets crows began.

Tied up tame or recently caught birds and discarded fish waste attracted the crowds. The net , camouflaged in the sand , was operated from a small brush hut . More than 60 crows could be caught on a good migration day. A bite in the top of the skull killed her instantly. They were cured and served as winter food. The "spit pigeons" were also sold to large restaurants and hotels and appeared on the menu as a delicacy under their own name. In Konigsberg Hotel "Continental" there were still up to the Second World War into crows the house as a specialty.
