Heeling ship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A heeling ship is a ship used to transport logs by water.

description

Heeling vessels are mainly used on fairways, e.g. B. used in Canada , where the usual transport as self-floating rafts is not possible because of the busy shipping traffic , too long routes or too narrow canals or too many locks . This form of timber transport is carried out, among others, by the Canadian Washington Marine Group .

technology

The tree trunks are stored lengthways on deck in high piles. By tilting the ship ( heeling ), the logs can be tipped off board quickly and easily. This is done by flooding the side tanks. It is therefore a self-unloading ship, such as dock ships or dredging barges .
