Krücke is the title of a children's and youth book novel by Peter Härtling , published in 1986 and filmed in 1993.

action

The 12-year-old Thomas was separated from his mother at the end of the Second World War . In this case, they wanted to meet his aunt in Vienna, but her house is no longer there. Thomas runs into a leg amputated former Wehrmacht soldier who calls himself "Krücke" but is called Eberhard Wimmer. Both find shelter with Bronka, a Jewish friend of Krückes whom he once rescued. She persuades Krücke to report Thomas to the Red Cross and return to Germany with him. She herself later emigrated to Palestine with Jewish orphans. After several weeks of transport in a freight train, Krücke and Thomas land in a small town in Swabia, where they finally resume everyday life until they find out that Thomas' mother is in Munich. Thomas returns to her, but has to part with his friend Krücke.

The publisher recommends the novel for readers aged 12 and over.

filming

In 1993 Jörg Grünler filmed the novel into a youth film called Krücke . Peter Härtling was very satisfied with the film.
