The Maria Ebene Hospital is a special hospital and a competence center for addiction medicine in the municipality of Frastanz , Vorarlberg , Austria . The hospital started operations in 1976, and the hospital operator is the Maria Ebene Foundation.
history
The establishment of the hospital went back to Rosl Bitschnau (1925–2015) from Tschagguns, who took over the management of the SMD of Caritas Vorarlberg in 1960 and was responsible for the care of alcoholics and their families. Inpatient treatment took place at the Valduna State Nerve Hospital in Rankweil or at specialist departments in Vienna / Kalksburg as well as in the surrounding countries.
Rosl Bitschnau kept in close contact with the doctor Kornelius Kryspin-Exner , who headed Kalksburg and later headed the psychiatric department of the Innsbruck State Hospital . The object Maria Ebene was brought into Frastanz by the Seraphic Liebeswerk , which used to be a children's home. The organizational form of a foundation was chosen under the leadership of Caritas, the first president was Governor Herbert Keßler . The hospital should be part of the treatment chain, both in the run-up with motivational work and in follow-up care together with psychosocial agencies such as the SMD of Caritas as well as with general practitioners and neurologists.

In 1976 the first patient was admitted to 20 treatment places. In 1990 the number of treatment places was increased to 50 with an additional building wing. In 2002 a B-wing and a C-wing at the Maria Ebene hospital were completed
In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic in Austria , the hospital with 50 places will be taking over psychiatric patients from the Rankweil State Hospital from April 2020 .
External therapy offers
In addition to the Maria Ebene hospital in Frastanz, the Carina and Lukasfeld long-term wards are among other inpatient therapy options, as well as the Clean advice centers in Bregenz, Feldkirch and Bludenz. Another institution of the Maria Ebene Foundation is SUPRO, a competence center for health promotion and prevention commissioned by the state of Vorarlberg. Founded in February 1993 as the first addiction prevention center in Austria, SUPRO's field of work has been expanded in recent years to include suicide prevention (since 2015) and health promotion (since 2016).
