history

At the request of the bishop, the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital was built in 1931 by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Savior , which is still the sponsor to this day. At the time of National Socialism, hospital operations could only be maintained with great efforts on the part of the sisters. In 1944/45 the facility was damaged by bomb attacks. Immediately after the war, however, the rebuilding began and the number of beds increased from 120 to currently 260 over the years. Advances in medicine and numerous other factors repeatedly forced the hospital owner to renovate and rebuild. In 1990, the complete renovation and construction of a new building began, which was inaugurated in 1994. The overall renovation was completed with a ceremony in 2001. In 2001, an additional building was acquired with a former private women's clinic and converted into the hospital's palliative care unit. Another extension took place from 2009 to 2011 with the construction of the medical center. Seven specialist practices offer their outpatient services on three floors in direct connection to the hospital.

Since the establishment of the St. Josef Hospital, nursing, administration, kitchen, housekeeping and nursing school have been almost exclusively the responsibility of the nuns. Even though their activities have decreased, around 15 nurses are still active in the hospital today.

Vocational school

A state-recognized nursing school has existed at St. Josef Hospital since 1952 and offers space for 75 trainees.
