Blessing to the sick

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The blessing of the sick is an ordinance (sacrament) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . It is donated at the request of a sick person or a relative of a sick person. The blessing of the sick consists of two parts. First, the head of the sick person is anointed with pure olive oil consecrated for this purpose by a Melchizedek priesthood holder . Then, as a rule, two or more Melchizedek Priesthood holders place their hands on the head of the person to be blessed . One of them acts as a speaker. He names the person to be blessed by name, calls on Heavenly Father, and says that the blessing will be performed under the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood. Then the blessing speaks (according to faith) words as the Holy Spirit has given him, and closes in the name of Jesus Christ.

This practice is traced back to the practice of blessing the sick as presented in the New Testament.
