The Gütersloh district archive obtains the official records from the former district administrations of Halle (Westphalia) and Wiedenbrück as well as from the current district administration of Gütersloh.

history

The district of Gütersloh was formed by the law on the reorganization of the communities and districts of the reorganization area Bielefeld on January 1, 1973 from the two districts of Wiedenbrück and Halle (Westphalia). The Gütersloh district has had its own full-time archive since 1984 .

building

The district archive was initially housed in the former district building in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. During this time the old registries of the districts of Halle (Westphalia) and Wiedenbrück were merged . In 1997 the district archive moved to the "Reckenberg", in district house 2 of the Gütersloh district. In November 2007 the district archive Gütersloh moved to the "House of the Farmer" in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. This was originally built in 1937 as the "Agricultural School for Girls and Boys". In addition, this building housed offices for the former district farmers , today the district office of the Chamber of Agriculture . In 1996 the "House of the Farmer" from the Gütersloh district became the property of the Westphalia-Lippe Chamber of Agriculture.

In summer 2018, the district archive and the Gütersloh city archive moved to the former rainbow school at Moltkestrasse 47 in Gütersloh. As the owner of the real estate, the district had the building converted for 2.4 million euros in order to adapt it to the requirements of a modern archive.
