District Marshal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The district marshal is the representative of self-government in the districts in the Russian administrative code.

Historical

According to the Russian nobility order of the 18th and 19th centuries, the district marshal represented the entire aristocracy resident in the district together with the noble marshal .

In Kurland , the Chamber of Deputies elected three district marshals as knightly representatives of a main team, who, together with the regional representative, the chief taker and the knighthood secretary, formed the so-called knighthood committee. The district marshal chaired the district assemblies, carried out the orders of the knighthood committee, and was later also president of the district military commission and the district assessment commission for estates and forests.

The non-resident district marshal also chaired the senior team meeting called by the knighthood committee or the state parliament, the meeting of the nobles of a senior team with voting rights.

The office existed since 1796 (initially under the designation Oberhauptmannschaftsbevollmächtigte) and ended in 1920 with the abolition of knighthood.
