The war memorial in the municipality of St. Jakob in Defereggen is a war memorial erected in 1927 . Originally dedicated to the fallen of the First World War , it was expanded and fenced in in 1951 to commemorate the victims of the Second World War . The war memorial in St. Jakob is one of the 26 listed objects of the municipality of St. Jakob ( list entry ).

The war memorial is located on Defereggentalstraße (L 25) in the center of the municipality of St. Jakob in Defereggen, the so-called Unterrotte. The war memorial to the west of the parish church is framed by two tall linden trees.

A war memorial was erected in St. Jakob in 1927 to commemorate those who fell in the First World War and unveiled on July 24, 1927. The inscription on the monument read:

“THE MEMORY / THE / 1914–1918 / FALLEN HEROES / FROM / ST. JAKOB "

After the Second World War, the existing war memorial for the fallen soldiers of the First World War was renovated and expanded to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the Second World War. The monument was fenced in and the newly designed complex was consecrated on November 4, 1951. The war memorial shows a larger than life representation of an emperor hunter on a high pedestal, who holds an oak wreath in his right hand and a lowered regimental flag in his left hand. The statue was made of bronze , the base of granite . Below the bronze figure is a bronze plaque with a Tyrolean eagle in relief and the inscription:

"THE FALLEN / SOLDIERS / OF THE 1st AND 2nd WORLD WAR / IN MEMORY / THE COMMUNITY / ST. JAKOB / DEF. "

In addition to the inscription plaque on the front of the granite base, bronze plaques with the names and dates of those who fell or were missing from the two world wars were also placed on the side walls. Another inscription plaque bears the text:

"VICTORY OR UNSUCCESS REST IN GOD'S HAND / HONOR WE ARE OUR LORD AND KING"

The war memorial itself in 1951 was surrounded by a wrought iron grille, the brick corner pillars were crowned with sacrificial bowls.
