The municipal war cemetery Bitburg-Kolmeshöhe in Bitburg comprises around 2000 graves.

The cemetery was laid out in 1930 as a memorial for the fallen of the First World War and is located near the octagonal observation tower made of limestone blocks, built in 1912.

In 1946 fallen soldiers of the Second World War , 59 civilian war victims and 23 soldiers of the First World War were buried here. Among the buried soldiers were 59 members of the Waffen SS .

The war cemetery on Kolmeshöhe was inaugurated in 1959.

In 1985 the Bitburg controversy over the joint visit to the cemetery by Helmut Kohl and Ronald Reagan on May 5, 1985 was waged. In 2013 the war cemetery was repaired and redesigned.
