Kristjan Bender

Kristján Bender (* 1915 ; † 1975 ) was an Icelandic writer.

Life

He was born the son of a merchant in the East Fjords of Iceland. After attending a boarding school, he was employed in various professions. So he found jobs as a worker, deep-sea fisherman, salesman and driver. A study visit to Denmark followed . From 1947 he was then employed by the Icelandic State Finance Administration in Reykjavík .

As a writer, he wrote a novel and volumes of short stories. Bender was chairman of the Icelandic Writers' Union from 1956 to 1958 .
