The Croatian National Theater in Mostar ( Croatian : Hrvatsko Narodno Kazalište - HNK u Mostaru ) is located in the city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina . It was in 1994 as Croatian counterpart to the left, since 1949 Bosniak side of the Neretva existing National Theater Mostar founded with the aim of promoting Croatian culture for about 40,000 Croatian inhabitants of the city and was the first Croatian theater in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The theater was founded on September 22, 1994. On January 30, 1996, the foundation stone was laid for a new theater building on the site of a former department store that had been destroyed during the 1993 war. The first construction phase was completed in 2002. Since then, the ensemble has played on a small stage in the basement.

The theater has 25 permanent employees. Half of the budget is provided by the state, the rest has to be generated by sponsors and entrance fees. It can seat 127 spectators.
