As crown passage is referred to in the hydrology the precipitation falling through the canopy of a tree population.

Together with the stem flow , he gives the stand precipitation , that is the precipitate under a crown or canopy. This is usually less than the precipitation over the stand or over the open ground, since it is reduced by interception . In cloud and cloud forests , however, it may well be the case that the vegetation combs additional water out of the clouds and the rainfall is significantly increased.
