The Kronenweiher is a pond in the Wahner Heide . It is a home to toads, newts and grass snakes.

location

The pond is located southeast of Cologne Bonn Airport , south of Altenrath , west of Lohmar and north of the Agger Stadium in Troisdorf at an altitude of 108 m.

history

It is of natural origin, but as a peated bog, it is strongly influenced by humans.

The city of Troisdorf describes the Kronenweiher as a cultural monument in a brochure. As early as 1914, the "Bergische Komitee für Naturdenkmalpflege" had successfully applied for the pond to be protected from the directorate of the 8th Army Corps in Koblenz. Today the pond is regarded as an “example of the natural regeneration of a previously heavily used area”, since without further artificial interventions a slow silting up takes place and the moor spreads again over time.
