Krusenstern-Riff (also: Krusenstern-Insel , Krusenstern-Klippe ) is the name of a phantom island south of the northwestern Hawaiian Islands , supposedly discovered by Lissjanski . It has been described as either an island, reef or rock in various sightings and has been located in three different locations:

  1. 20 ° 15 ′  N , 175 ° 37 ′  W.
  2. 21 ° 55 '  N , 176 ° 5'  W.
  3. 22 ° 15 ′  N , 175 ° 37 ′  W.

The existence of the reef has been questioned several times. After a targeted search by the USS Milwaukee in October 1923, it was deleted from the first nautical charts, but still remained on some charts.

Krusenstern Rock is mentioned in the official sea handbook from 1899 at the third position (22 ° 15 ′ N, 175 ° 37 ′ W), already with the indication that it was not found at this position in 1897.
