Church of the Assumption of Our Lady in Krutitsy

Krutitsy ( Russian Крутицы ) is an architectural ensemble in the district Tagansky from Moscow ( Russia ). Today it houses a metochi of the Moscow Patriarchate .

The diocese title Krutitsy goes back to a church that was built about 5000 m from the Kremlin by Prince Daniel in the 13th century. The former residence of the Metropolitan of Krutitsy and Kolomna, the Metochi Krutitsy, is located south of the New Savior Monastery on the hills of the Moscow River . Today the center of the complex is the Assumption Church with its black onion roofs . It was built between 1667 and 1688. The main building, the Teremok , is famous for its unusual tile decorations. It comes from Ossip Starez, 1688–1694. During the communist period there was a car repair shop in the church and a prison in the palace, later exhibitions took place there.
