Reims crypto portico

The Reims crypto portico dates from the 3rd century and was part of the Roman forum in Reims that it was supposed to support.

It is a partially underground and corridor-like room . Grain was also stored underground in the horreum to protect it from light and heat. At the same time, it could also be used as a promenade when it was too warm outside. This cryptoportic is one of the few surviving cryptoportics in the world. A museum on site provides information about the excavations.

Another important cryptoporticus belongs to the thermal baths of the ancient health resort Allianoi .
