The koala is an Australian investment coin that has been issued since 2007. Between 1988 and 2000 there was an Australian bullion coin with a koala motif . But this was made of platinum (see Koala (platinum coin) ).

overview

On the face side, the coin shows an annually changing koala motif on a faceted background. In 2007 it was a koala hanging from a branch. In 2008 the coin shows a koala with a young animal on its back. As is customary with other Commonwealth coins, the value side shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II .

In addition, since 2008 there are also versions with a weight of ½ ounce , 10 ounces and 1 kg as well as gold coins with four different weights. The gold coins are not investment coins in the traditional sense due to the small number of copies and the high premium on the material value.

The koala is legal tender in Australia, but its material value by far exceeds its face value .
