It has been minted by the Royal Australian Mint since 1993 and is legal tender in Australia. Their face value is 1 AUD , but this is significantly exceeded by the metal value .

motive

The front shows the annually changing picture of a kangaroo , the nominal value ONE DOLLAR and the weight indication 1 OUNCE FINE SILVER . The kangaroo is a coin motif that has been used again and again in Australia for a long time.

On the back there is the portrait and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the word AUSTRALIA and the year of issue.

Versions

The coin is offered in the minting qualities of uncirculated gloss (since 1993), polished plate (since 1998) and partially gold-plated (since 2003). A set of three colored coins was released in 2009.

A copper-nickel version has also been available since 2007.

A gold coin weighing 110 oz appears in 2012.

Status as an investment coin

The small numbers for an investment coin were reduced again in 2007. The Silver Kangaroo is therefore rarely offered in the precious metal trade and is usually traded with a corresponding surcharge on the metal value.

Demarcation

The Australian Silver Kangaroo is not a silver version of the Australian Kangaroo . The Australian Kangaroo coin is produced by the Perth Mint and has also been available in silver as a high-relief coinage since 2010.
