The Kubaeule ( Margarobyas lawrencii ), formerly Gymnoglaux lawrencii, is a species of owl from the family of real owls (Strigidae).

features

The small, round-headed owl is 20 to 23 centimeters long and weighs around 80 grams. The plumage is brown above with blackish spots on the vertex and rear neck. The cloak is spotted white, the arm wings narrowly banded in white. The underside is creamy white with a dull yellow coating and provided with dark, teardrop-shaped shaft lines, the neck and throat washed out beige-brown. The eyebrows are conspicuously white, the eyes brown, the bill and wax skin grayish yellow. The long legs and toes are featherless and yellowish brown, the claws horn-colored with a dark tip.

Way of life

Dense forests serve as habitat, but also plantations and semi-open limestone areas with caves and crevices. The Kubaeule lives mainly on insects and other arthropods , but also on frogs, snakes and sometimes small birds. The voice is a soft cu-cu-cu-cuencuk that becomes faster and rises slightly towards the end.
