Kubanka
The kubanka is a traditional headgear widespread in Russia and the Donbass . It is a shortened, low form of the papacha .
Originally, this hat was widespread among the Kuban Cossacks . In the First World War and the Russian Civil War , she found a much wider distribution. In the Russian Civil War in particular, she was popular in both the Red and White Army . To better distinguish friend and foe, the Red Army soldiers liked to wear them with a red diagonal ribbon, the White Guards with a cockade . In the Soviet Union it was also part of the militia uniform and the NKVD employees at various times . They were worn by some Red Army units, mainly from the south of the USSR, in place of the Ushanka during World War II . In the conflict in eastern Ukraine , it has been used by the representatives of the People's Armed Forces of the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic since 2014 .
