The bolt hole design is a term from mechanical engineering .

This refers to the special shape of holes through which the appropriate screws ("bolts") are inserted. The screw and the specially shaped hole allow the parts to be connected to be positioned precisely in relation to one another. This article describes the use in vehicle construction as an example.
