Kuglerwiese

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kuglerwiese in the 19th district of Döbling in Vienna was the area where the gardeners of the Baron von Rothschild played their games. These English gardeners also founded the football club First Vienna FC in 1894 during this period .

The historically first official football game in Vienna was played on November 15, 1894 on the Kuglerwiese. The Vienna Cricket and Football Club clearly won 4-0 against First Vienna FC 1894. The Kuglerwiese remained the home of Vienna until May 31, 1896. On the occasion of 110 years of First Vienna FC 1894, the game was played on July 2, 2004 on the Hohe Warte. Almost 110 years later, this game was revived. The teams played in imitation suits, the referee whistled in tails and top hats. Cricket won 4-0 this time too. The organizer Erich Krenslehner tried to get permission to play on the Kuglerwiese, but this was forbidden.

The Kuglerwiese was in the area that is now called Heiligenstädter Park .
