The Kulturgasthaus Bierstindl is an inn and event location in the Wilten district of Innsbruck . The building is located at the foot of the Bergisel , below the Bergiselschanze , between the old Brennerstrasse, the Brennerbahn and the entrance to the Sillschlucht .

The location on Brennerstraße can be traced back to the 18th century in its current form as a small overnight and brewing company. One of the owners during the 18th century, a certain Stocker, commonly known as Stindl, is said to be responsible for the current name. Before it belonged to Wilten Abbey . Today the building is a listed building .

In the decades after the Second World War, the Bierstindl was primarily known as the venue for the popular folk drama The villainous Kuno von Drachenfels by the Innsbrucker Ritterspiele theater association . The climax of the humorous play, a kind of early splatter , is the decapitation of the main actor, the “villainous Kuno” with heavy participation (“no amal!” Meaning “once again! Da capo”) from the audience.

From 1992 the restaurant was also used as a cabaret venue, for readings, for CD presentations and as a venue for slam poetry . At the end of 2010, the cultural activities were stopped due to financial problems and the future of the Bierstindl seemed uncertain. In March 2011, the Bavarian Edith Haberland Wagner Foundation took over the Bierstindl with the aim of continuing the inn and cultural operations. In 2014 the inn was bought and renovated by the owners of the Stiftskeller. The bar was reopened on May 21, 2014.
