The former palace of culture of the AChBK ( Kazakh Дворец культуры АХБК ) was the palace of culture of the Almaty cotton mill (AChBK) in Almaty in Kazakhstan . The building now houses the State Academic Russian Theater for Children and Young People N. Saz . The building was erected in 1981 according to designs by the architects A. Petrowa, S. Mustafina and G. Shakipowa. The responsible engineers were G. Stulow and G. Nikitin. Juri Funkurineo and Vladimir Tverdochlebow were responsible for the artistic equipment . The building is one of the most outstanding works of socialist modernism in Kazakhstan, both architecturally and artistically.

The building was a central point of contact for the workers in the cotton mill. Much of the cultural life took place there, for example theatrical performances were regularly held there, both by laypeople as well as by famous actors and saws such as Alibek Dnischew , Rosa Baglanowa , Bibigul Tulegenova , Valentina Tolkunova and Gennady Chasanow .

After the company was privatized in the 1990s and then went bankrupt, the Kulturpalast was given up. The State Academic Russian Theater for Children and Young People N. Saz has been located in the building since 2000.

The building was listed on September 3, 1986. In 2010 all old monument statuses were declared invalid and re-examined. The building would once again be listed as a monument of local importance .

In the 2000s, the original mosaic fountain was removed and replaced with a new, more functional fountain.
